Upcoming Screening: Zurawski vs. Texas

Let’s show our support for women by turning out for the showing of Zurawski v. Texas, a powerful documentary that portrays the real-life impacts of the total abortion ban in Texas. By participating with other women attending this event, we can amplify our voices and work together to protect women’s rights.

Two showings of Zurawski v. Texas will take place on Wednesday July 16 at 3:30 and 7 pm at The Main Cinema located at 115 SE Main Street in Minneapolis. Women’s organizations sponsoring this fundraising event include the AAUW Minneapolis and St. Paul Branches. AAUW MN, YWCA Minneapolis, the League of Women Voters MN and the Women’s Foundation of MN. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Reproductive Freedom Fund of the Women’s Foundation of MN. The Reproductive Freedom Fund supports women who want to have children, women who have children and women who do not want to have children.

Tickets are only available online here.

Zurawski v. Texas is a court room drama and documentary about the class action suit brought by the Center for Reproductive Rights against the State of Texas on the grounds that women cannot receive adequate medical care because the Texas abortion ban is so vaguely written that physicians do not know how to interpret it and are unable to give adequate care in many situations involving reproduction. The case was won in lower courts and in the appellate court (before women judges) in each case but lost in the (mostly male) Supreme Court of Texas.

Jennifer Lawrence with Hillary and Chelsea Clinton produced this film. One of the directors, Abbie Perrault, will be present for a Q & A after each showing. Please view the trailer here. Reproductive rights and securing passage of ERA Minnesota are among the issues important to many AAUW members. Invite friends, family members, and colleagues to attend this event with you and show their support for women’s rights.
