Staff Spotlight: Cathy Quinlivan
Cathy Quinlivan has been a part of the YWCA St. Paul Health & Fitness Center since January 1992. Over the years, she has worn many hats—serving not only as a Group Fitness and Pilates Reformer Instructor, but also spending a decade as the Group Fitness/Specialty Coordinator and working as a personal trainer.
Today, Cathy teaches the early morning 6 a.m. classes, including:
- Group Strength
- Cycle
- Pilates Reformer
A Love for Community
What Cathy loves most about the YWCA St. Paul is its strong sense of community. She values the intimacy of a smaller gym where she can truly get to know the members and form deeper connections.
That same love of community carries into her life outside of work. Every summer, Cathy leads a Wednesday night community bike ride, and many of the riders are also members of the YWCA.
Passions Beyond the Gym
An avid cyclist, Cathy spends much of her free time biking—often tackling 50- to 70-mile rides on weekends. She also enjoys:
- Outdoor recreation
- Attending concerts
- Going to the theater
If asked to choose between the beach or the mountains, her heart leans toward the mountains. And when it comes to food, peanut butter is her everyday favorite.
Rooted in St. Paul
Cathy grew up in St. Paul, graduated from St. Paul Central, and now lives just two miles from where she was raised. She can’t imagine living anywhere else.
Recently, she lost her beloved cat but looks forward to adopting a new kitty this fall.
Looking Ahead
Through it all, Cathy’s passion for fitness, community, and her hometown shines brightly. On November 1st, she’ll be back at the YWCA to “Move and Groove” and show her continued support.
