April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

This year, we encourage our community to take part in Sexual Assault Awareness Month by learning about the ways they can make a difference in preventing sexual violence, empowering survivors, and advocating for lasting change. According to a recent study by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 53% of women and 29% of men reported experiencing contact sexual violence.

Together, let’s deepen our understanding of how each person can make a positive difference in preventing sexual violence and speaking up for survivors. Here are a few things you can do right now:

  • Check out this interactive map to see how Minnesota stacks up against the rest of the nation according to the Sexual Violence Prevention Association. Hint: we’re in the top 10 for legislation and prevention, but trail far behind other states.

  • Discover how local organizations like the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault are making a difference through initiatives like the Rosemary Project by providing simple tips that lead to larger community change.

No matter how you choose to be an ally and advocate in this moment, we hope you’ll impart your new knowledge to those around you. This is how each person can make a difference.
